Bogota is the capital of Colombia.

Bogota accommodates the Supreme Court of Colombia, the President’s house as well as the Congress of the country. Hence, it serves as the epicenter of the country’s administrative, financial, cultural and artistic activities.

Location

Bogota is situated right in the central region of Colombia in the eastern part of the Andes Mountains at an elevation of 8,660 feet.

Population

The population size of Bogota is estimated to be around 10,700,000 individuals which makes it the most populated city of the country.

Demographics

The vast majority of the city’s population are mestizos and whites without any ethnic affiliation. There are also some small percentages of minorities in the city which include Afro-Colombians and some indigenous Amerindians.

Religion

The prevailing religion over Bogota is catholic with percentage population as high as 79%. The second most followed religion is protestant, 14%. There are also some other religions that are followed by the local residents such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.
